ATAS presented 'Table of Flavours: A Culinary Celebration'—an extraordinary collaboration between Executive Chef Suhalmi Tasir and Chef John Lim of Roots, Kuching. This exclusive four-course dinner showcased the perfect fusion of European bistro classics and Sarawak’s rich flavours, highlighting local ingredients.

The evening was a true celebration of culinary artistry, spotlighting Sarawak’s vibrant heritage with a modern twist.

In celebration of World Gin Day in June, The RuMa Hotel and Residences hosted an extraordinary event at SEVEN Lobby Bar. Award-winning mixologist Nick Wu, founder of Taipei's renowned Bar Mood, showcased his expertise on Friday, 7 June 2024. Known for leading Bar Mood to Asia's 50 Best Bars and winning the 2022 Asia's 50 Best Sustainable Bar award, Nick Wu brought Bar Mood's essence to Kuala Lumpur.

Guests enjoyed an evening of sophistication with Nick Wu presenting his signature cocktails and an exclusive creation inspired by Malaysia’s heritage. The event featured two of Nick Wu’s renowned cocktails and a special creation highlighting a key local ingredient, celebrating Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.

LSA Makan Club Returns to ATAS

On 5 June 2024, The RuMa Hotel and Residences proudly hosted the third installment of the LSA Makan Club at ATAS. This highly anticipated event showcased ATAS’ revamped menu, bringing guests on a culinary journey of classic European bistro dishes infused with distinctive ATAS flair, all while showcasing the finest seasonal, sustainably sourced produce.

In attendance were local entrepreneurs, creatives and influencers including Agy, Bella Dowanna, Birdy Lee, Celest Thoi, Fizi Woo, Iyzdham Ang, Izree Kai, Jaden Chen, Jaymond Tan, Jenn Low, Lucau Lau, Qasrina Karim, Shi Qi, Syamim Farid and Zi Xuen.

The RuMa Hotel and Residences in partnership with Love, Bonito, hosted 'Women of the New Era,' an exclusive event celebrating women's achievements and empowerment through fashion.

Invited guests previewed Love, Bonito's newest collection and heard inspiring stories from a panel of renowned women, including athlete Datuk Nicol David, content creator Jenn Chia, and activist Heidy Quah, moderated by Nadia Heng. To engage the public, a social media contest offered chances to win event tickets and prizes, with winners announced on 18 March 2024.

Celebrating the Year of the Dragon at The RuMa

The Year of the Dragon was celebrated in style at The RuMa Hotel and Residences, with our annual Lion Dance performance uniting hotel associates and guests in joyous festivities. Amidst the rhythmic beats of drums and cymbals, guests and associates joined hands in the traditional Yee Sang tossing ceremony, symbolizing the rise of good fortune and prosperity in the new year.

FIT FOR A QUEEN | Masterclass

The RuMa Hotel and Residences teamed up with Omorovicza at KENS Apothecary on a masterclass featuring the cult beauty brand’s Queen Collection. Led by Gwen Giorla, International Trainer and Business Development Manager for Omorovicza Cosmetics, attendees consisting of media and KOLs were shown the ropes on how to incorporate products from the Queen Collection for maximum efficacy.

The masterclass was conducted ahead of Omorovicza’s collaboration with UR SPA, held in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. Running from 1 October 2023 till 31 December 2023, the Queen Facial Treatment is a luxurious one-hour facial that utilises products from Omorovicza’s Queen Collection, with10% of proceeds during the month of October to be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation in support of breast cancer awareness and support initiatives.

A select group of media and content creators were given a masterclass on the art of making chocolate fondant, led by two masters of their craft—Chef Philippe Kotzky, a master pâtissier and chocolatier from France and Tai Boon Ee, the award-winning Pastry Chef of The RuMa Hotel and Residences.

Following the fun and immersive lesson, guests headed to The LIBRARI for ‘Indulgence à la Mode’, an exquisite French-inspired afternoon tea that shines the spotlight on the rich and indulgent qualities of chocolate. Crafted by Chefs Philippe and Boon, the afternoon tea featured sweet and savoury delicacies with creative twists—a true showcase of the remarkable expertise of two culinary talents.

Kita Food Festival Masterclass

A day of masterclasses with both traditional and avant-garde chefs for a full day of educational demonstrations, including traditional cooks and modern cuisine chefs. Noel Smith, the sous chef at Dewakan, kicked us off with a Portugese Peranakan Masterclass of ambilla kacang, served up with mango acar and cincalok binjai sambal. Next, Lau Ka Hong, chef-proprietor at Atelier Binchotan and one of our Horizons mentor chefs, taught us how to make duck sausage: from mincing the meat to flavouring it, filling in the casings, tying the sausages by hand, and finally, smoking it. Gugs, founder and cook at Hommhouses No 8, then demonstrated a masterclass on larb, a Lao/Issarn meat salad consisting of ground meat, herbs, chilies, fish sauce, lime juice, and toasted ground rice. Finally, Aidan Low, chef patron of Akâr Dining, made grilled patin with petai and terung asam broth.

Batu Caves

Batu Caves, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most frequented tourist attractions, is a limestone hill comprising three major caves and a number of smaller ones. Located approximately 11 kilometres to the north of Kuala Lumpur, this 100-year-old temple features idols and statues erected inside the main caves and around it. Incorporated with interior limestone formations said to be around 400 million years old, the temple is considered an important religious landmark by Hindus.

Called the cultural heart of the city’s local cuisine, Jalan Alor (ocated just behind Jalan Bukit Bintang), is basically a strip of atmospheric air-conditioned Chinese seafood restaurants, with a row of hawker stalls set up on the five-foot walkway on both sides and plastic tables and chairs spilling out onto the road. The variety of food available is amazing with barbecued meats, noodles and desserts recognised as some of the best (and cheapest) in the city.
